Semmelweis University (SE) has 250 years of tradition of medical treatment, education, and clinical & preclinical research, supported by its 5 faculties, basic science institutes and 27 clinics. The development of research activities (basic and applied research, experimental development, technological innovation) has received increasing attention over the past decade, this experience and expertise serves as the basis for innovation and the application of modern technologies. With a total staff number of 7500 including ca 1000 academic employees – SE is a leading academic medical institution of Central Europe – The Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is 110 year old with more than 100 beds and outpatient clinics.  The department focuses on the management and research of adult psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, adult ADHD and borderline personality disorders. The Department launched its adult ADHD Outpatient Clinic in 2005. The staff has published extensively in the topics of epidemiology, psychopharmacology and cognitive dysfunction in relation to adult ADHD. The Department also has among other a Clinical Electrophysiology (focus: EEG), a Molecular Psychiatry Research Group and a Clinical Psychopharmacology Research Group.

The Department is on a campus with other clinics (e.g. internal medicine, surgery, radiology &imaging) and there is a daily contact between the staff members of those clinics. The researchers have experience and collaboration with the industry, health economics groups and the Hungarian National Health Fund (the single insurance institution in the country) and expertise in working with large datasets, including nationwide insurance data.
