What is COIBSnet?

COIBSNET (Comorbid Irritable Bowel Syndrome Network) is a key initiative stemming from the DISCOvERIE Project. It serves as a collaborative network dedicated to advancing our understanding of the factors contributing to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a complex gut-brain disorder. COIBSNET unites researchers and healthcare professionals at pan-European level working together to explore the interplay between IBS and its comorbid conditions, aiming to improve diagnosis, treatment, and patient quality of life.

Aim

The aim of COIBSnet is to establish a comprehensive, multidisciplinary platform that advances the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of IBS and its comorbidities across Europe and beyond. Building upon the objectives and results of the DISCOvERIE project, COIBSnet seeks to foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians, patient organizations, policymakers, and stakeholders to improve patient outcomes. The network aims to conduct in-depth clinical and psychosocial assessments of IBS patients with mental and non-mental comorbidities, explore underlying mechanisms involving the gut-brain axis, identify genetic and epigenetic signatures, and discover specific biomarkers for diagnosis and therapy. Additionally, COIBSnet intends to validate innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools, investigate the impact of lifestyle factors via eHealth technologies, and ensure broad dissemination and exploitation of research findings to enhance care strategies and policy development for IBS patients.
